Nassau County Clerk People Search Records

The Nassau County Clerk has served as the Chief Recording Officer since 1899. The main office is at 240 Old Country Road in Mineola, NY 11501. Public counter hours run Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. You can reach them by phone or visit in person to request copies of filed documents. The clerk keeps land records, court filings, business certificates, and notary records. All of these can tie a name to an address, a legal case, or a property transaction in Nassau County.

The Nassau County Clerk's website gives remote public access to many of these records. The records search database has been verified through July 14th, 2022. You can look up filed documents by name, date, or document type. eRecording is handled through CSC ERecording Solutions for attorneys and title companies that need to file documents without visiting the office. The fee schedule covers legal fees, notary and business filing fees, and real estate recording fees. Copy costs and certification fees vary by document type.

If you need a certified copy of any filed document, the clerk can provide one for a fee. Bring valid photo ID when you visit. Staff at the public counter can help you find what you need in the system.

Nassau County Vital Records Search

Vital records in Nassau County work a bit differently than in most places. Birth and death certificates come from individual municipalities, not from the County Clerk. The three towns of Oyster Bay, Hempstead, and North Hempstead each keep their own vital records. The two cities, Glen Cove and Long Beach, do the same. So where you go depends on where the event took place. If someone was born in Hempstead, you request the birth certificate from the Town of Hempstead vital records office. The Nassau County Vital Records page explains which office handles which records and how to reach them.

Marriage licenses come from the three towns and two cities as well. The County Clerk holds marriage records from 1907 through April 29, 1935. For anything after that date, you go to the municipality where the license was filed. The County Clerk can also authenticate vital certificates for a $5 fee. This is useful when you need to use a certificate for legal purposes outside New York State. The NYS Department of Health Vital Records office handles requests for events that took place outside of Nassau County but still within New York State.

Note: Divorce records in Nassau County are only available to the husband, wife, or their attorney and you must show photo ID to get a copy.
